with a view to enhancing the green cover in the city and its suburbs.
Mayor C. Jayan Babu inaugurated a scheme named Haritha Vanam at a
function held on the premises of the garbage treatment plant at
Vilappilsala. A green belt will be created around the plant in the
first phase of the programme. Haritha Vanam involves the planting of
saplings on roadsides and on the premises of institutions and offices
in the city, a press note issued by the Corporation said. Saplings of
endemic species of trees will be procured from the Forest Department
for the purpose, it added.
