Sugathakumari expresses solidarity

PALAKKAD: Poet Sugathakumari has expressed solidarity with the Wayside Shady Tree Protection Campaign held here on Monday. The campaign aims at removing the display boards nailed on the roadside trees, which eventually leads to the trees drying up.

The campaign was organised by the wild life wing of the Forest Department in association with green activists, nature lovers and forest protection committees.K K Divakaran MLA, District Collector K V Mohan Kumar and Eastern-circle forest conservator Babu Bonaventure were present.

Sugathakumari in her speech said that the trees were the source of love, protection, blessings, shade, pure air and water and destroying them would spell disaster for the human race.

“People are crazy that they build concrete structures, use luxury cars, but neglect these little things in life.

This is an injustice on the future generation”, she said.Sugathakumari joined the brigade of nature lovers, Forest Department staff , environmentalists and students who removed the boards. District Collector K V Mohan Kumar briefed on the aim of this campaign. Advocate Namisvayam was also present.
